Lean Technologies Saudi Arabia Explores New Investments Ahead of Potential IPO

Saudi Arabia-based Lean Technologies, one of the region’s leading FinTech startups, is exploring new investment opportunities as it looks to expand its product portfolio and prepare for a potential initial public offering (IPO).

The company aims to broaden its scope beyond open banking and finance by investing in businesses that can enhance its solutions for clients, according to CEO Hisham Al-Falih.

"There are massive under-penetrated opportunities that we hear about from our customers," said Al-Falih in an interview. "We feel we have a strong right to play and solve these pain points — that’s what is guiding our focus."

Backed by over $100 million in disclosed venture funding from investors including General Catalyst, Lean has also raised $67.5 million in its Series B round in 2024. The company’s core business currently centers on open banking and financial data services in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Expanding its range of products remains Lean’s top priority as it builds the foundation for a potential IPO. The firm is witnessing strong growth in remittances, cross-border payments, and alternative credit solutions, while exploring opportunities in insurance, pensions, and investment sectors.

This strategy aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Open Banking Roadmap, which began with account information services in 2022. As both Saudi Arabia and the UAE continue to advance their regulatory frameworks for open banking and digital finance, Lean stands to benefit from these initiatives that support economic diversification and innovation.

Startups in the Middle East raised a record $1.2 billion in funding last quarter, defying broader emerging market trends — a performance driven by mega-deals exceeding $100 million, with fintech companies at the forefront of this growth.
