Buildroid Secures $2M to Launch AI-Powered Construction Robotics

Buildroid, a US-based AI robotics company specializing in automation for the construction sector, has secured $2 million in pre-seed funding, led by prominent investor Tim Draper. The company also announced the launch of its first block-laying robot, developed through BIM-to-BUILD simulation, and showcased the technology at the Big Five Construction Conference.

Although Buildroid is a US-based startup, it launched in the UAE as a testbed and initial market. Founded by Slava Solonitsyn, a YC alumnus and founder of Mighty Buildings (which raised over $100 million), and Anton Glance, founder of Glance Clock, Buildroid aims to transform the labour-intensive partition wall segment before expanding its platform to other applications across the UAE’s $42.75 billion construction market. The company’s multi-robot strategy delivers up to 10x productivity gains and up to 4x cost savings relative to manual labour.

“Our platform integrates Building Information Models (BIM) with AI-driven Digital Twin simulations powered by Nvidia Omniverse to optimize robotic workflows, enabling faster project timelines, reduced costs, and enhanced quality across job sites,” the company stated. Its first simulated block-laying robot is already being piloted on active construction sites in the UAE, and will soon be supported by Autonomous Mobile Robots designed to transport concrete blocks directly to the BLR unit.

Slava Solonitsyn, Buildroid’s CEO and co-founder, explained:
"The UAE is excellent from a compliance standpoint. We can deploy robots directly to a construction site without needing specific approvals. For example, in the US, OSHA requires quite lengthy safety approvals. In the UAE, of course, we take all necessary safety precautions and do plenty of preparation. However, we can design and test robotic solutions on actual construction sites much more quickly. As a startup, we need to move swiftly. Additionally, we are very enthusiastic about the construction industry, especially since it is booming and expanding rapidly. Many large contractors we have spoken with and piloted with face significant labour scaling issues, mainly because it is increasingly challenging to find skilled workers from overseas. That is another reason we chose the UAE as a testbed and initial market. We aim to achieve a certain level of maturity here before launching in the US and other major markets."

Imad Itani, Head of Innovation at ALEC, commented:
“In line with our robotics strategy, we are piloting Buildroid’s robotic block-laying system on one of our sites… and we look forward to leveraging their upcoming BIM simulation tools to virtually test robotic solutions and de-risk on-site deployment.”

Lead investor Tim Draper added:
“Unlike single-robot solutions, Buildroid’s platform combines the best robotic technologies validated through BIM-based simulations… improving efficiency while empowering workers.”

With the newly raised capital, Buildroid will expand its pilot programs, further enhance simulation and autonomy capabilities of robotic crews, and accelerate commercial deployments. Beginning in Q2 next year, the company plans to roll out the first commercially available AI-powered robotics teams in partnership with leading contractors, aiming to receive a share of the net cost savings generated by robotic deployments. The company also plans to scale into interior fit-out and broader construction workflows as part of its long-term roadmap.
